Pre-order the Canon EOS 40D: Faster, Better Mid-range DSLR

Pre-order the Canon EOS 40D now at RitzCamera.com

The Canon EOS 40D is available for pre-order now at RitzCamera.com. The orders will be shipped on a first-come, first-served basis, so place your order right away to ensure it will be shipped on the first day.

This new DSLR is available in two flavors, and qualifies for FREE SHIPPING. (And, of course, you never pay sales tax at RitzCamera.com.):

Canon EOS 40D SLR digital cameraToday, Canon U.S.A., Inc. officially announced the Canon EOS 40D digital SLR camera. Aimed at the "mid-range prosumer", this DSLR camera offers such high-performance and includes so many advanced features that the "mid-range" moniker may only apply to the pricing; the 40D will easily be one of the best digital SLR values of the year.

Designed as a natural evolution of the EOS 20D and 30D models, the Canon 40D's state-of-the-art features include:

  • Canon EOS 40D CMOS sensorLarge, 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC III Image Processor with 14-bit analog/digital conversion provides superb image quality. The 40D's CMOS sensor provides much the same technology first seem in the (much more expensive) Canon EOS-1D Mark III. It is more sensitive to light than previous generations, able to discern 16,384 colors per channel and providing more accurate and more detailed gradations in color and tone. New manufacturing techniques allow each pixel to be spaced closer together than ever before. The on-chip software provides digital noise reduction and better high-ISO performance (ISO 100 to 1600; ISO 3200 in extended mode). With this camera, you can look forward to larger, clearer and sharper images; poster size enlargements have never looked so good.
  • Fast performance: With a 0.15-second starup time, 59 msec shutter lag, and DIGIC III processor to maximize speed between the capture and recordig of images, the Canon EOS 40D screams in relation to other cameras in this price range. In bursts up to 75 JPEG images (17 images in RAW format), the 40D will capture and store your shots at up to 6.5 frames per second.
  • Larger, brighter LCD screen:

Canon EOS 40D backThe 3.0-inch LCD screen is not only 1/2" larger than the Canon 30D's LCD, but the brightness level has been kicked up to allow viewing the 230,000 pixel LCD display in bright sunlight. The 40D's menu is organized in the same tabbed format as the EOS-1D Mark III.
  • EOS Cleaning System: First introduced in the Canon Rebel XTi (400D), the EOS Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit uses ultrasonic vibrations to shake dust particles off of the low-pass filter in front of the sensor. This happens automatically each time the camera is turned on or shut down, and there is also a manual "clean now" function.
  • Accessories and lenses: The standard lens that will be packaged with the Canon EOS 40D will probably be the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens, which was designed to work specifically with the EOS 40D and other EOS DSLR cameras. Canon has announced that it will also be available in a kit that contains the Canon EOS 40D body and EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens, for approximately $200 over the body-only price. (This kit price will save you at least $200-$300 over buying the body and lens separately.)

There are too many features of this new DLSR to mention them all here. For more complete and detailed descriptions of ALL of 40D's selling points, you can visit the following pages on the Canon USA web site:

The Canon EOS 40D should begin shipping in early September 2007. The estimated selling price is $1,299.00, and probably won't be discounted much for a few months at least. If you are looking for a DSLR in this price range, the Canon EOS 40D offers the latest technology available anywhere at a very reasonable cost.
