Nikon Digital SLR's for Both Amateurs and Professional Photographers
Nikon has a wide selection of digital single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras for both amateur and professional photographers.
These cameras are digital, which means that the image is captured by a photosensitive chip.
Nikon's image processor then renders the captured image to one of several possible image formats, and stores it to an erasable memory chip.
The Nikon DSLR's have several features that differentiate them from Nikon's digital Coolpix series:
- Single-lens Reflex: When composing the image, the viewfinder shows the image being captured by the lens. The viewfinder does not show a separate, parallel view of the scene or object being shot.
- Interchangeable lenses: Nikon DSLR cameras allow the photographer to switch lenses for a particular type of shot. Nikkor lenses -- also manufactured by Nikon -- are extremely high-quality lenses that are the most compatible with Nikon digital cameras.
- Powerful In-Camera Functionality: Specifics vary from model to model, but Nikon DSLR cameras offer many powerful settings and post-shot functions that exceed what can be found in the simpler Coolpix line.
